Combining Bryon Carr's dance and media experience with Kody A. Trauger's interactive art practice resulted in The Captures, a series of 21 fine-art digital prints. Together they wrote custom software that altered a video stream of improvised dance performances which allowed them to generate symmetric and dualistic imagery by exploring their physical space, bodies, and emotional connection. Their software saved a still every three to five seconds which created the randomized results seen in the series and speaks to the improvisation of The Captures’ creation.
The images represent the spirituality of our exploration and are a trace history of our identity examination. Additionally, our identities are simplified and mixed in the computer generated visuals which has the effect of removing all boundaries between us and our environment. We used an assortment of props including a projector, rope, clothes, chain, and reflective mylar as aides in our exploration.
